Cats often view small spaces as a fun challenge. If your cat wears a collar they might get hurt, and stuck. A breakaway collar is a good option since it will break if your cat pulls on it. This could save your cat’s life!
Don’t use items on a cat that are meant for a dog. Cats have very strong, negative reactions to products formulated for dogs. Flea products are a prime example. Flea treatments made for a dog can be fatal to a cat. Keep your cat away from your puppy after treating it with some flea products.
Spray bitter apple on electrical cords to keep cats away from them. If this does not work, make sure you cover the cords. Bundle electrical cords together inside a tube. If you have electrical cords laying out that are not being used, put them away as cats can play with them and then move on to live electrical cords.
Microchip your cat. Even an indoor cat can get the urge to run out of a door or leap through a window. Cats can get out of a collar or, worse, have that collar choke them to death. Microchips are as small as a rice grain and have all of your important contact information. Nearly every vet and shelter owns a scanner which can read a microchip, and since they’re implanted, there isn’t a risk of the chip falling out or getting lost.
Never let a cat become bored. Cats need to play and get regular exercise. Sadly, this can be easily overlooked. Bored cats can develop depression and other harmful health conditions. Give them room to play and a large number of toys. If they stay indoors make sure they have a scratching post for climbing.
Make sure your cat gets lots of love. A cat’s companionship should be returned with the same. Like humans, cats want to feel wanted and needed. Cats want to feel loved and needed.
Set a tablecloth under your cat’s food bowl. A lot of time cats will take their food from their bowls to eat it on the food bowl’s side. This can result in a mess that needs to be cleaned up. To make clean up a breeze, use a place mat underneath the bowl or a piece of fabric. You’ll be able to pick it up easily and shake the excess food into the trash.
You should think again before allowing your cat to go outside. This can compromise your cat’s safety. Your cat may get fleas or have other problems. Other animals and vehicles could also injure your cat. Let your cat go out in your backyard and play on your lawn.
